Celestial Theme
This theme is fancy yet not demanding, making it easy to decorate on your own. It is great for either a baby girl or baby boy. Although the predominant color for this theme is blue, the soft nuances and the atmosphere it creates makes it great for either baby. Also, keep in mind that a celestial theme can mean either a starry night or a sunny day decoration, giving you even more flexibility. And, we’ll make sure we capture both stances.
Now it is time to start decorating!
Walls, Ceilings, Windows and Floor
As said before, the motif of the theme is blue, therefore most of the accessories will be blue. However whites and yellows are also a great choice, considering the sunny celestial theme.
The ceiling can be painted either dark blue for a starry night, or light blue for a sunny day theme. To give it a twist, you can use some of those glow-in-the-dark stick-on stars and apply them in various spots on the ceiling. For a day theme, you can get the cloud version of the stars. For the walls start by getting a star and moon, or sun and clouds wallpaper.
Budget tip: Wallpapers can get pricy at times, and they are more difficult to set-up. Save yourself the trouble and the money by using regular paint. No matter the theme a light blue color would go best. To make it more funky get some sky themed bulletin borders and put them all around the door.
The best décor for the windows would be to add some drapes and valances. For a great combination use white or yellows to compliment the walls and the ceiling. As for the floor, if you don’t have any type of carpeting already in the room, then you might want to add some fun star and moon carpet or a plain dark blue carpet, whichever you find more appropriate.
Furniture Time
For the furniture, consider the basics: a crib, a changing table and a dresser to keep the baby’s clothes. Any furniture color would work, although white would probably be a very good pick. If you have enough room, you can also add a small nightstand and a bed or couch. This bed can be used by you, in those nights when you need to sleep next to the baby, or it can be a great sitting place when you have friends and family over, and you do not want to leave the baby alone.
Budget Tip: This is particularly useful if you plan on keeping that room as the permanent room of the baby. As he or she grows up, they can use that furniture, and replace the crib space with a desk, and voila! You make an investment now, that would save you money later.
Time to Decorate
It is finally time to brighten up the atmosphere. Although the walls are pretty much taken care of, you can skillfully place a night lamp which would be practical as well. For a starry night theme, you can get a moon shaped night light and for the sunny day theme a sun shaped night light. Place it where is more convenient for you. Next, let’s take care of the bed. Our celestial theme asks for celestial bedding. From pillows to blanket, bring in the stars and the sun into your baby sleeping crib.
Budget Tip: Buy all your bedding at once and save. The same way you book a vacation flight, hotel and rental, the same way buying all the bedding as a set, can save you some money.
You can use the extra cash to add a star and moon musical mobile right above the crib. Moving along to the changing table and couch. To add a little life the room, start adding lots of stuffed animals. Teddy bears and other plush toys will make the room look happier and fit to welcome a new baby. Again, chose light colors to give a sense of consistency to the theme. Place the teddy bears on the couch or bed, and even in the crib so that it keeps it warm before the baby comes. Then make a little stuffed animals heaven on the table and on the dresser. Choose from cute little stuffed cows, or plush dogs and plush cats. Arrange them the way you want to bring luminosity to the room.
There you have it! A wonderful nursery ready to welcome your new baby. It has everything you need to make it functional, while bringing all the softness a baby room should have.
