Design an Extraordinary Boy's Nursery

Creating and designing a baby boy's nursery theme can be a lot of fun, although it can also be a predicament at times. As with everything, it involves many decisions to take, from the smallest things such as the color of the walls to the type of furniture and decorations to use. It can also become more difficult, as sometimes we believe that there is more flexibility in decorating a girl's room than a boy's room. But, once you'll take a look at these decorating ideas, you will see that boys have their fair share of accessories and themes to make decorating and designing their nursery a complete delight!

To get started, try to find a match between the overall atmosphere of your home and your new baby's room. If your home is more traditional, choose the accessories and the colors which will match that feel. If your entire home is more modern, then bring that atmosphere into your baby's room as well. No matter which route you take, every nursery needs these basic essentials: a crib, a dresser or clothing cabinet, changing table, toys and stuffed animals to make the atmosphere happy and childish. All the other things are fun decorations which will help you design the theme you want to create.

To keep things simple, we'll show you how to create a “dynamic” room with a few accessories and a little bit of creativity. We'll keep it general so that you can take the ideas and transform this dynamic theme into anything you would like: a space theme, a sports theme, a car theme, cowboy theme etc.

Starting with the Basics

The basics include choosing the colors and the furniture. Boy's rooms tend to have darker colors for the walls. Usually darker green is used for sports themes, or golden-dark brown for a cowboy theme and so on. Therefore, the furniture should be of a lighter, complimentary color to balance the walls and bring light inside the nursery. White furniture would go great with blue or green walls, and birch would be the best choice for the cowboy theme.

Once you selected the colors of the room, choosing the furniture becomes a lot easier. To make it easier, and possibly save yourself some cash try to find a furniture set which already includes a crib, a dresser and maybe a small table. If you cannot find a matching changing table, do not worry. Almost any dresser can be used as a changing table. Simply put a changing pad on top of it and you save yourself the money and the space, which sometimes can be an issue as well. Just make sure the dresser is deep enough and stable, to create a safe space for you to change the baby. If you have the space, you can add some kid's furniture such as a little table and chair set, or a baby armchair, just for fun. If you have more space, you can even add a loveseat in the room. This way there is room for family and other visitors to join you while you are sharing some baby time.

Decorating and Adding Accessories

Since you are designing a nursery, some of the following are great additions to the basics: lots of storage accessories such as small containers, mounted shelves and storage boxes. Also, to bring life into the room, stuffed animals, toys and wall paintings or wall stick-ons are almost a must.

To make sure you do not stumble on any dropped pacifiers or that you never run out of diapers, use a small shelf to store all your essentials. Placing a shelf above the changing table or next to it, is a perfect place for keeping toys, teddy bears and essential baby supplies such as a pacifiers, diaper-rash cream, diapers, etc. Along those lines, any storage boxes you can think of will always prove useful. Place them next to the crib or under them, and keep all your essentials, store the changing pad or gather all the toys in one place fast.

Now that we are done with the practical part, let's move to the fun part, starting with the walls. Bring some joy to the walls by adding some themed murals such as a cloud and plane stick-on or a baseball mural. Right next to the wall you can add a colorful growth chart, so that you can monitor your baby boy grow. Then bring the fun to the room by adding some teddy bears and other stuffed animals. Plush toys brighten up a room and give it that cuddly and sweet atmosphere that any child's room has. Place a few teddy bears on the dresser or on the window. Another great toy would be a plush dog. Dog's are a man's best friend so why not bring it's toy counterpart into your baby's life? Decorate with as many as you want to create that fun and warm atmosphere any nursery has. Then add any other toy which matches your theme. A rocking plush horse for a cowboy theme, a stars mobile above the bed for a space theme, little car toys for a car theme etc and you are all set.

With little effort and a little bit of creativity you created an amazing nursery for your new baby boy!
