How to Design Your Own Princess Nursery
Being a parent is one of the most rewarding things ever experienced. With all the joy, also comes the preparation: moving to a bigger apartment or house, prepping the house to be baby friendly and of course creating and decorating the baby’s nursery. Since all of this preparation and planning is involved, this article is set to make your life easier. If you know you are expecting a baby girl to join you in the near future and you want to have the nursery be ready to welcome your new princess in style, why not decorate the room with a princess theme in mind?
This girly theme is easy to set-up as there is much flexibility and a lot of choice when it comes to furniture and other decoration.
Princess Furniture
Let’s start with the basics. In order to have your princess room look authentic you need to get the right type of furniture. In general more classical nursery furniture would be more appropriate versus a more modern one. You can even turn to vintage furniture if you are a fan. The basic item would be a nice crib, a dresser or drawer chest, and a changing table. If you have limited space you can opt for one of those dressers which can be used as a changing table or a more sophisticated crib which has an extension which can be used as a changing table. If you do have the space, the ideal princess dresser would be a drawer chest with a hutch as it is a more elegant, dreamy type of furniture. Plus, it is practical, as you can store lots of items on the shelves. To keep the idea of elegant, find a matching crib which would bring a more sophisticated look to the room. To make the nursery more fun, add a child sized table and chair set or a princess table, mirror and stool set. It will brighten the nursery up and make it look adorable.
Princess Accessories
With the furniture in place, it is time to think about accessories. First is the bedding. There is no doubt about it that the bedding has to be princess themed and somewhere in the whereabouts of pink. It is a princess’s room after all. Also, a royal room asks for a matching bed skirt to complete the ensemble. To make it look even more authentic, add a white or pink canopy above the bed. You won’t believe what a great decorating piece this is. If you are not a fan of canopies, add a fairies mobile above the bed for a similar effect.
The dresser, table and chair need to be decorated as well. Stuffed animals and dolls are your best way to go. Fill the shelves of the dresser with cute teddy bears, either white, pink or the classic ones to bring life to the room. Place some princess looking doll on the baby chairs, as if they were getting ready for a conversation. To make it more fun, add a little stuffed dog under or next to the table. Every respectable princess has a royal pooch as a companion.
Walls, Floor and Ceiling Décor
Now that you have your furniture and decoration all figured out, is time to paint and get the actual room ready to receive all this amazing things. A princess room asks for pink, so choose a pink that you like for your walls. Keep the ceiling simple and give it an ivory white color. This will brighten up the room and give it a fairy tale look. Even better, try adding a chandelier to bring in the same magical light during the nighttime. The floor can be decorated as well by adding a castle or tiara rug. A light blue or pink color would be a great choice. For the walls you can add some castle paintings or pictures, or get a picture of the Disney princesses to hang next to the bed.
This is it! It is amazing what themed bedding, children’s furniture and stuffed animals can help you achieve. With almost no effort and a little bit of creativity, you designed your very own royal nursery for the young princess about to join you. You are now one step ahead in the preparation process and one worry less.
