Great Games to Play for a Baby Shower
So you are hosting a baby shower? You've got lots to do. You have to get together food and drinks, send out invitations, and even clean house so that it's fit for company! You also have to provide entertainment for the party. Baby themed games are a great way to break the ice, (because probably not everyone knows everyone else), and guarantee that your party will be a hit. Here are five great games you can play during a baby shower.
Speed Diapering
All you'll need for this game is some diapers and stuffed animals. You can buy some new teddy bears, or borrow some from your child's collection. Make sure the plush animals are large enough to be easily diapered. Give each guest a stuffed animal and a diaper. Whoever diapers their toy first wins, so have everyone start at the same time. Remember, they won't win unless they've done it correctly!
The Baby Name Game
In this game, all you really need is paper, a writing utensil for each guest, and a kitchen timer. The object of this game is for guests to write down as many baby names as they can think of in one minute. Set the timer and watch everyone go! Whoever has the most baby names at the end wins. You could also do a more challenging variation, and instruct all the guests they can only choose baby names that start with a certain letter. For example, everyone has to write down as many baby names they can think of for the letter "A."
Guess the Number of Jelly Beans
Get a baby bottle and fill it with jelly beans (or some other candy if you prefer). Then all the guests have to guess how many there are. Have them write there guess on a scrap of paper with their name on it, or just have everyone guess verbally. Whoever's closest wins! Let the winner keep the candy, (and give the bottle to the mom to be if they don't have a baby of their own).
Baby Memory
Buy a selection of baby items and leave them somewhere where all your guests can see them as they arrive, like an entrance table. You can get things like stuffed animals, baby shampoo, a bottle, a rattle, cotton balls, bottle nipples, baby clothes, baby bibs, baby socks, a rubber ducky, and other baby toys. After your guests have been there for a while, put all the items away. Then tell the guests they have to write down as many of the baby items as they can remember. Whoever remembers best wins, but if you've got a tie, let the person who remembers the most details from each item win. (Like what color were the baby socks and what animal was on the baby bottle). Give the baby things to the mom to be as her gift at the end.
The Purse Game
This is a great one to play if you've got an all woman shower. Have each guest pick up her purse. Before the shower, you will have made a list of items commonly found in a purse, and assigned them points based on their rarity. For example, a cell phone and chap-stick could be worth one point, a lipstick and compact worth two, and a scissors or nail clipper could be worth three. Whoever gets the most points wins.
Have some prizes on hand for those that win the games. These prizes can include things like gift cards, spa items (lotions, bubble bath, etc.), potted plants, and kitchenware (cookie sheets, an apple slicer, etc.). Play all of these games or just play a few. Either way, you'll be sure to have a memorable and fun baby shower!
