Three Cool Themes for a Little Boy's Room
So your little man is getting old enough to develop his own hobbies and interests. You think he needs a room of his own to reflect that. Decorating a little boy's room may be a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. To give you some ideas, here are three cool and popular themes you could use to decorate your little boy's room.
In Outer Space
Whether he's got dreams of being an astronaut, or just like things that glow in the dark, an outer space theme can be great fun. You can go all out and choose a rocket-ship shaped bed, or get a space-themed bedspread, or even just get a dark blue bedspread. Probably the most important part of this room is the ceiling. There are many places where you can buy glow in the dark stars and planets, and you should arrange them across the ceiling so it's like you're looking at the galaxy. That way, whenever you turn off the lights, your little boy will really feel like he's in outer-space! Stick them to the walls to if you want him to really feel surrounded!
You can go as overboard with this theme as you want, or keep it more subtle. Buy some galaxy themed wallpaper, or paint a mural of space if you really want the room to be grand. Or, for a cheaper option, just paint the walls dark blue or black and focus on the little touches to make it space themed, like those glow in the dark stars and some alien action figures. That's the great thing about the outer space theme: it's very versatile!
On the Farm
This is a particularly good idea for a younger child, especially if he's a country boy at heart! One way you could really bring this theme into the room is with the walls. Get a farm-themed wallpaper border and plaster it mid-level through the room. Then paint the area above the border blue for the sky, and the area below the border green for the grass. If you are familiar with sponge-painting, that's a great way to make the green paint look more "grass-like."
To finish bringing the room together, add lots of little touches. Stuffed animals are one really fun way to do this. Get plush versions of all the classic farm animals, such as horses, plush cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, and donkeys. Line them up on your child's bed, or install some shelves so that they can be displayed. You can even line them up on top of a dresser! Stuffed farm animals are a great way to add a nice finishing touch.
Dinosaurs
If you have a little boy, chances are at some point he's going to discover dinosaurs. There's a lot of great dinosaur memorabilia you can purchase for a bedroom, such as dinosaur themed bedspreads, wallpaper, posters, or even window decals. If you're not big on wallpaper, simply paint the room green or brown as nice neutral colors to invoke the prehistoric jungle or desert. Put in a painting or poster of a volcano to really give it the right setting. Plush dinosaurs and dinosaur action figures are a great way to add some finishing touches to the room. For the kid crazy about big lizards, this is a great way to let him go back in time to the Jurassic!
Remember, no matter what your little boy is interested in, there's the perfectly themed room for him! These three themes cover a lot of kids, and they are a lot of fun to put together. So let your child feel like he's sleeping in outer-space, hanging out on the farm, or going back in time to live with the dinosaurs. He's sure to have a blast!
