Mother's Day: Gift Basket Ideas for the Hobbyist Mom - Part 2
No matter what mom's passion is, there's always something you can do to make her have an extra special Mother's Day. Gift baskets are always a fun idea, and creating one based on her favorite hobby is a wonderful way to show your appreciation. Here are three more ideas for a mom with a much loved hobby. For all of these, you'll need a large basket, some cellophane wrap (clear or colorful) and some colorful ribbon to secure the cellophane.
The Reader
If your mother spends all her free time reading novels, then this is the gift basket for her. First, you will obviously have to pick out some books. If she has a specific genre she prefers, such as mysteries or romance, then make sure to choose novels in that category. If you're not completely confident in your choice, leave a gift receipt in the book's jacket so she can exchange them.
Next, pick up a reading light. That way she can indulge her hobby no matter where she is or what time of day it is. Finish out the basket with a couple of bookmarks. You can obviously buy some nice ones, but if you have small children, this can also make a great project for them. Get some construction paper and markers, and have them design book marks for mom. This will be a great, really personal addition!
The Traveler
Whether she travels for work or pleasure, a gift basket filled with things to make her trips more pleasant and comfortable is a great idea. You can choose some combination of the following items to fill her basket. To provide entertainment on the airplane, you could include books and magazines. You could also include a neck pillow and gum (to help pressurize her ears as the plane ascends or descends) so she can travel comfortably. Other great things to include are a passport holder, a photo album, a camera (disposable if you want a more economical option), and a travel journal.
For the centerpiece of the gift basket, it would be a really cute idea to get a stuffed animal of some kind. This may seem like an odd idea at first, but for a mother of younger children especially, this would really be a unique addition. She can take the plush toy on her trips, and take its picture in front of recognizable land marks. Everyone will enjoy seeing her stuffed monkey in Times Square, in front of Big Ben, or any other place she goes! Young children will especially get a kick out of this, and if she's a mom her has to travel a lot for work, it will be a great way for her to stay engaged with the kids.
The Scrap Booker
If there's one thing this mom loves, it's immortalizing her memories with family and friends in a scrapbook. Creating a gift basket for this mom usually requires finding your way to a craft store. For the anchor piece of the gift basket, you'll need a nice album. Then, get those little craft pieces that every good scrap booker should have: colorful pens, a selection of puffy paint, craft scissors, tape or glue, and a selection of colorful paper. Once again, if she's the mother of small children, you could get the kids a disposable camera and have them take pictures of their daily activities for her too. Placing these pictures among the craft items could give her something great to get started with!
So there you go! Three great ideas for the Hobbyist Mom! Once you've pinpointed her hobby and bought your gift items all you need to do is place those items in your gift basket (biggest item or items in the back and center), wrap the entire basket in the cellophane wrap, and tie it off with a pretty ribbon. Then you have a great gift for Mother's Day!
