Mother's Day: Gift Basket Ideas for the Hobbyist Mom - Part 1
Mother's Day is just around the corner, and you've got to get the mom in your life a great gift. But the typical bouquet of flowers doesn't quite seem like enough. You want something special that fits her active lifestyle, and you want it to be a gift that she'll really enjoy. Luckily, she's probably got a hobby that she loves, and you can't go wrong putting together a gift basket based on that activity. All of these will require a basket, some colorful cellophane to enclose the basket, and some ribbon. Here are three great gift basket ideas for mothers with a specific hobby.
The Gardener
For this mom, her pride and joy is her garden. She spends hours upon hours toiling outside in the soil, and it shows. Whether she grows flowers or vegetables you can put together a really thoughtful gift basket of things she'll use and enjoy. To fill in the center of the gift basket, you'll need some larger items. These objects can include a nicely illustrated book on gardening, a trowel so that she doesn't have to dig in the dirt with her hands, and a pair of gardening gloves. Arrange these in the back and center of the basket, using the book as nice sturdy back.
Then, to fill in the rest of the basket, you can purchase some seed packets. Get different types of seeds; just make sure they fulfill her interests. For example, if her garden is purely practical and there to produce fresh vegetables and fruits, you could get seeds for strawberries, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, snap peas, green onions, or carrots. Or, if her garden is ornamental, get her flower seeds. Some great options are daisies, roses, pansies, or daffodils. And there you go; you have a great gift basket for the gardening enthusiast!
The Collector
So you've got a mom who enjoys collecting. For example, maybe she has a large stuffed animal collection. She probably even displays her collection or uses it to decorate her home. She would definitely enjoy some new additions. For the centerpiece of the basket, get her a nice medium to large plush toy. And of course, if she only collects teddy bears, make sure it's a teddy bear. Then, if you want, you can fill in the rest of the basket with some smaller stuffed animals. You could even make a little family in the basket. Just for an example, get a big plush lion and a couple of smaller ones so she has some cubs. This is especially cute for Mother's Day. Or, if she uses her stuffed animal collection for decorating, fill in the rest of the basket with some fake or real flowers.
The Cook
This mom missed her calling as a chef, but the entire family certainly enjoys her culinary masterpieces. She's collected or created some amazing recipes over the years, so you should first give her something to organize them in. Get her a nice recipe box or a recipe album. If you have access to her recipes, you should copy them down on index cards for her new box, or do the same for the album. She'll really appreciate this as it will save her time and show her how thoughtful you are. Then, add some other items to fill in the basket, such as oven mitts, a nice bottle of olive oil, and a selection of herbs and spices. This is a gift that will really show your appreciation for all mom has done for you over the years.
Once you've chosen your gift items, it's time to put the finishing touches on your basket. Once your gifts are all carefully arranged, take the cellophane and lay it flat. Then set the basket in the middle and gather up the cellophane until it meets at the top of the basket. There should be some left over at the top which you can secure with the ribbon, and there you go! Now she will definitely have a Happy Mother's Day!
