So it's time to decorate a theme for your little girl, and you want to do something special and kid appropriate.

Luckily, there are a lot of really great themes you can do to make a fun and cool bedroom. Here are three great options for your little girl's room.

Under the Sea

Whether she loves the Little Mermaid or is a budding marine biologist with her fascination with the aquarium, this is a great theme for many little girls. Blue should be the main color scheme for this bedroom, and you could do a dark sapphire for the deep sea, or a lighter aqua blue for the water in a coral reef. One fun idea is to get a wallpaper border with a fish theme and put it around the top of your blue walls. Then add a fish (or even mermaid themed) bedspread.

If you want the room to look more classic so your child doesn't out-grow it as she grows up, keep things a little simpler. Still paint the walls blue, but also include a blue bedspread or better yet one with a more subtle ocean pattern. Then frame some posters or paintings of underwater scenes. If you took a recent trip where your child was introduced to snorkeling, you could even frame some pictures that you took! Whether you go all out or do something more subtle, add some plush sea creatures as a cute accent. Stuffed dolphins would be a great idea, or a stuffed clownfish, shark, turtle, or even an octopus!

Horse and Pony Theme

How many parents of little girls have heard the words "I want a pony?" Many! Something about horses really appeals to little girls, so if your child is a horse fanatic, a pony theme for her bedroom would be great fun. Horse themed wallpapers and bedspreads are always popular, and horse paintings and posters aren't too difficult to find. You have lots of options with the color scheme too. You could keep it more neutral with browns and whites, or add some pink, because there's plenty of bedroom horse paraphernalia made specifically for little girls, and pink is traditionally a popular color.

However you decide to decorate, make sure to add some finishing touches to the room with plush horses and ponies. If she's horse crazy, she's probably already got some of these. Line them up at the foot of her bed, or arrange them on her shelves.

Rainforest

Perhaps not a completely traditional theme for little girls, but the exotic animals from a rainforest certainly appeal to children. This can certainly draw on her sense of adventure. So for your future Jane Goodall, this is a great theme. Find rainforest themed wallpaper or bedding, or do things more subtle. Paint the walls green, or if you've got an artistic touch, paint some trees on the wall with a mural. If the walls are plain green, add some framed posters or pictures of exotic animals or deep green forests. You can even go to your local craft store and buy some fake vines to hang from the ceiling! Stuffed animals are another must for this theme, and with a rainforest you've got a lot of choices. You could use colorful parrots, tree frogs, plush monkeys, butterflies, lizards, or stuffed leopards.
