So it’s time for you to decorate your little girl’s room. A theme is a great way to make a room really fun, so here are three cool themes for her room. First, you could use an ocean theme. Use blue colors, fish-related accessories, and stuffed dolphins and other cool sea critters. Second, you could do a horse and pony theme for the little girl who is crazy about her equines. Buy bedspreads or wallpaper with horses, and include some plush horses and pictures of horses to accent the room. Lastly, do a rainforest theme for the child interested in exotic places and animals. Green paint, colorful stuffed animals, and fake vines will turn her bedroom into the tropics. It’s easy to find the perfect theme. Now go decorate!

Teddy Bear Clinic at St. Barnabas Helps Children

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 19:15

More than 200 children attended Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My!, a free Teddy Bear Clinic sponsored by Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston on Wednesday, July 21. Children between the ages of 4 and 8 brought their teddy bears or favorite stuffed animals to the clinic to learn about medical equipment and procedures to become comfortable with visiting a hospital.

“The Teddy Bear Clinic is designed to be similar to the experiences that children and their family members might have when they go for an annual checkup or are admitted into the hospital,” said Laura Cunius, a Child Life Therapist at Saint Barnabas. “Participation in the clinic helps kids become more familiar with a hospital setting and allow them to dispel fears that they might have about going to the doctor.”

Upon arrival, each teddy bear was registered, received an identification band and visited a series of medical play stations including weight, height, immunization, blood pressure and others. All the displays are interactive, so the children will have a good time learning so that they don’t have to fear a trip to the hospital.

The event is sponsored by Johnson and Johnson Health Care System, Inc., Toys R Us and supported by The John La Conti, M.D. Child Life Fund, which is administered by the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Foundation.

What Does Justin Bieber Do With His Stuffed Animals?

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 12:27

Justin Bieber gets a lot of stuffed animals from his fans, and now that he’s king of YouTube, he can use his cred to to turn those stuffed animals into his next music video.

Well, sort of.

Bieber released his own homemade music video for a remix of Drake’s “Find Your Love” with a few friends. The video is titled “Find Your Teddy.”

Although Bieber attached a message to the video post assuring viewers “It’s not weird,” the video shows Bieber and his friends in a strobe-lit room passing around (and occasionally fighting over) a stuffed leopard, taking turns serenading it with the lyrics to the song. At one point, Bieber kisses the stuffed animal.

It’s a little weird.

But Bieber and his friends seem to be enjoying themselves, so who’s to complain. All innocent fun, as far as we can tell.

Step-by-Step Child Care Center in Ottawa recently presented a collection of 50 new stuffed animals to Ottawa Hospital & Healthcare Center for children who are cared for at its facilities.

Ottawa Regional volunteers will present the stuffed animals to children who receive care at the hospital.

“Sometimes when a child arrives at a hospital for treatment, it can be frightening for them, especially if they’ve never been to a hospital before,” said Jayne Nugent, director of volunteer services at Ottawa Regional. “This donation of stuffed animals will help comfort our youngest patients and help us provide them with a positive experience.”

Ottawa Regional treats about 4,000 children and adolescents each year in its emergency department annually and approximately 100 more receive observation and treatment in the medical/surgical unit.

Ottawa Regional Hospital & Healthcare Center provides residents of La Salle County and surrounding communities a comprehensive range of health care services, including inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care, emergency care, pre-natal and post-partum care, behavioral health services, rehabilitation and physical therapy and hospice care.
